What is Suzuki Early Childhood Music?
Suzuki Early Childhood Music (SECM) is a program for little ones aged from 0-5years, to experience music expression in a fun an supportive environment. The classes are taught by accredited SECM Teachers under the banner of the Suzuki Philosophy. Dr Suzuki recognised that every child successfully learns to speak their own language in their own environment by listening, observing and practicing at an early age. He realised this was a key to learning and started a method that taught music in the same way that little ones learn to speak their mother tongue.
The role of the Suzuki Teacher is to assist in unfolding little ones fine character. This is fostered by developing skills including confidence, concentration, attention, self esteem, social skills, self discipline, self respect, sensitivity to music, themselves and others, perseverance as well as a positive attitude towards learning and accepting challenges.
The program utilizes pitch, rhythm, beat, dynamics, number skills, language, literacy, taking turns, sharing, size and direction, sequencing, vocabulary, fine and gross motor skills.
All these skills capabilities lead to ability development in many areas including the learning of a future musical instrument.
